[Description]

Located in Marseille, this former 1820 agricultural outbuilding has been entirely reinterpreted by Betyle Studio.

The building, with its thick walls and lack of openings, could not be altered without risking the integrity of its structure. The studio therefore imagined an internal framework: a kind of central architectural core, set back from the ceiling, serving as partition, storage, and light filter. This hollow volume frees circulation and allows light to diffuse throughout the space. A high band of sandblasted glass blocks, chosen for their ability to preserve intimacy while revealing the texture of daylight, runs along the edge of the module.

While the furniture sometimes reconnects with the site’s original agricultural vocation, every detail has been rethought and redesigned to serve a more contemporary purpose. Farm hooks have been reinterpreted as wall pegs, while a bathroom cabinet draws inspiration from old feed troughs. Le Figuier thus embodies a vision of bespoke design that is rooted, natural, and resolutely contemporary.

[Creative process]

Here, only unique, custom-designed pieces coexist from furniture to doors, down to the handles in a pursuit of formal unity and functional precision.

Wood and glass form the material framework. The walls, clad in okoumé tinted a deep red, respond to a floor of stoneware tiles in warm brown tones, echoing the patina of traditional Marseille terracotta.
